Hardwood Stair Treads

Hardwood stair treads add a great look to the floor of any staircase.

Hardwood staircases are very beautiful, but are also very expensive.  Nothing offers the beautiful appearance of a redwood or birch staircase, but these are extremely expensive to build and have installed.  But you don’t have to shell out a lot of cash to have a beautiful hardwood staircase.  There is a way that you can get the same hardwood effect for a much cheaper price.  By using hardwood stair treads you can install any type of staircase, and then simply put the hardwood of your choice over the existing material.  Then you get a beautiful staircase for less than half the price.

Hardwood stair treads are essentially strips of wood that you can place over existing stairs, in order to change the appearance of your current stairwell.  This is handy to install a hardwood staircase for cheap, or to change up the look of your home without costly construction work.  The problem with reinstalling an entire stairway is that it will cost you a fortune to take out the old one, have a new one built, and then installed.  Also materials like hardwoods are extremely expensive, and out of reach for the average budget.

Hardwood stair treads are much more affordable however, and cut the price of actual hardwood stairs in half.  Plus they are a way to easily cover a stairway that was previously carpeted in order to achieve a completely new look.  But before you consider buying tiles and installing them, you’ll have to do some measuring.  Every stair and the entire length of your staircase needs to be measured.  That way you get a good idea of the amount of hardwood stair treads you will need to cover the area.  Plus this will aide you when shopping, so that you can get accurate price quotes.

From there you can go to a hardware store, or a contractor to see the options that are available to you.  There will be a wide variety of hardwood stair treads to choose from.  You should try and find a wood with a color and grain that best matches your home’s décor, or the décor that you plan on changing to in your home.  This way you include an elegant hardwood staircase with your redecorating, for cheap.  Typically panels will cost in the area of $50-200 each, depending upon the type of wood that you choose.

Installing hardwood stair treads yourself isn’t recommended unless you’re completely confident in your abilities.  These are very expensive, and you don’t want to have to incur more cost from having to reinstall panels that have been improperly handled.  Unless you have previous experience with hardwood stair treads, it’s recommended that you go through a contractor so that the panels can be professionally installed.  In this case it’s worth the extra cost to ensure the job is done properly, leaving you with stairs that you’ll be completely happy with.  Otherwise you run the risk of redoing the job over and over again, and wasting expensive panels in the process.
